Met gala 2018: Best looks
One of the biggest fashion events of the year once again did not disappoint. This year's theme for the Met Gala was 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,' a theme, like most, that is very open to interpretation. Here are my top five looks from the 2018 Met Gala in descending order. All photos used were taken by Damon Winter of the New York Times.
No. 5: Nicki Minaj in Oscar De La Renta
This look was on-theme but took it to a different side and I am here for it. Instead of the ethereal goddess looks we got from so many, Minaj gave us a devilish red gown with an eye-catching headpiece. This look was effortless, yet powerful. Not to mention, Minaj announced the name of her new album, 'Queen,' on the carpet which she said will be released in June 2018.
No. 4: Ariana Grande in Vera Wang
I don't even know where to start. Grande made her Met Gala debut this year and wow will we be expecting a lot from her in the future after this look. Grande went with a beautiful Vera Wang gown and the draping is stunning, not to mention the fact that the dress is literally printed with the Sistine Chapel. I love the bow to add a bit of drama to her hair while keeping the makeup simple. One of the most on-theme looks of the evening.
No. 3: SZA in Versace
Okay let me start out by saying that I feel like Versace embodies this Met Gala theme as far as designers go. SZA's look with the halo and soft pink tule makes her look like she actually just walked from the gates of heaven. I love the beading in the top of the dress and the dewy glow of her makeup look. It's so put together and thoughtful and effortless all at once. Just magnificent.
No. 2: Rihanna in Margiela
Rihanna, channeling the Pope, owned the Met Gala once again. The mini dress with the amazing full skirt overtop and the hat made this absolutely perfect. Not to mention the black beading on the entire look which gives a very rich, elegant look to contrast the white. We just don't deserve this.
Okay, now you're probably thinking, 'how could anything top this?' but I promise my favorite look will actually take you to church.
No. 1: Chadwick Boseman in Versace
All I can say is WOW. I think my jaw actually dropped when I saw this look, and of course it's Versace. The ivory color and cape give a vintage feel while the gold embellishments keep this so fresh and absolutely stunning. This gives off Pope vibes mixed with Sunday best and something about the embellishments on the pants and cape with the gold shoes makes this look so strong. Boseman set the standard for this Met Gala theme this year and I absolutely love it.
